When Mary A. -- a talented scarf designer and artist -- contacted us in Fall 2014 to create her own line of silk scarves made after her exquisite designs, we knew right away this would be the beginning of a successful story for her.
Whereas most of the time ANNE TOURAINE USA Custom Scarves & Ties designers create designs for customers in search of custom-made scarves or ties, Mary DeArment came to us with her own sketches.
We all agreed on a specific scarf size:classic European square scarves - size 36''x36" - the perfect dimension to feature her stunning designs.
We then discussed about fabrics. Though Mary already had in mind a fine fabric such as silk, she had no idea of the existing various options. Should her scarves be made of silk twill, silk chiffon, silk charmeuse or silk crepe? After she reviewed the scarf swatches we had sent her, she agreed with us that silk twill and silk chiffon were the most appropriate types of silk fabrics for her vibrant designs.
Next step was the choice between screen and digital printing. As Mary's designs had both vivid shades and a limited number of colors (2 to 6) in her collection, screen printing rapidly sounded like a must. Though screen printing implies an additional cost for the screens (one screen is necessary for each color) it is the safest choice for a perfect color rendering. And Mary wanted the final result to be totally faithful to the Pantone™ colors she had picked... hence our common choice of the screen printing method.
When she received her first series of scarves, Mary DeArment was delighted with the result. Then she realized that she needed photos to illustrate both her website and her line sheet. She looked for a fashion photographer both affordable and familiar with scarf photography - scarves are not so easy to shoot! At ANNE TOURAINE USA, we have our own team of photographers who specialize in scarf and tie photos. Mary decided to require our services and was thrilled with the photos of her scarves we presented her.
Today, Mary A. is a fulfilled designer: her silk scarves are gorgeous and she sells them successfully to scarf lovers. The entire ANNE TOURAINE USA team wishes her the very best for the coming years!
