Screen printing is the old traditional method: a silk screen is created for each color of the pattern.Then, each color is printed one at a time, repeatedly, all over a large piece of fabric . It's only when the whole process has been completed (meaning each color has been applied) that the entire pattern shows.

Digital printing is a fast and modern technology which became popular in the 1980's. Think about the desktop printers used to print documents. Digital printers for fabric are very similar: the entire pattern is printed at the same time on a roll of fabric (silk, polyester, cotton etc...). Today, most apparel brands - including a majority of luxury brands -have adopted this technology.

Screen printing ensures an exact color rendering as defined for example by Pantone™ numbers. But each screen has a cost; meaning this method is perfect when the design is simple and has a limited number of colors (3 to 4) and no color gradients. It is a cost effective solution for quantities over 100 custom scarves or custom ties.
Digital printing is recommended for intricate and complex designs featuring many colors and gradients. Though the back side of the product will always appear slightly paler than the front side of it - especially if the design has many dark colors - digital printing is the best option for quantities lower than 100 custom pieces.
